Chiller Van vs Freezer Van: Which Do You Need?

Chiller van parked in Dubai ready for loading

It's the most common question we get from new clients: do I need a chiller van or a freezer van? Getting it wrong is expensive — under-cool a frozen load and it softens; over-cool fresh produce and you can damage it. Here's the simple way to decide.

The one-line rule

Chiller van = 0°C to +5°C for fresh goods. Freezer van = -18°C and below for frozen goods.

When to choose a chiller van

A chiller van holds a gentle, stable temperature just above freezing — ideal for cargo that must stay cold but not frozen:

When to choose a freezer van

A freezer van is a purpose-built deep-freeze vehicle for anything that must stay solidly frozen:

Why Dubai's climate makes this matter more

In 45–50°C summer heat, a van that merely "cools down" after loading isn't enough. The cargo loaded first experiences a warm-up window before the unit catches up. That's why every van we dispatch is pre-cooled to target temperature before it arrives — so your temperature log starts from a stable baseline, whether chilled or frozen.
